The purpose of this assessment task is to:
Create a journal of your play experiences reflective of the languages of maths, science, technology and movement. This will comprise of observations and reflections gathered throughout the unit.
LO1: Articulate the value of place and children’s agency in play
LO2: Elucidate the language of maths, science, technology and movement in the context of early childhood and play LO3: Evaluate physical activity, health and wellbeing as defined in policy documents, development theories, and curriculum frameworks.
Assessment Structure
Throughout your week, you will look for, document (draw, photograph etc), and reflect on the following topics (200 - 300 words each):
Play and the language of science
Play and the language of math
Play and meaning-making with the language of movement
Play and the language of technology
You will observe something in your daily life or in class, or you will have an idea linked to a reading (must include graphical elements illustrating your experience)
You will reflect and explain why your observation is significant (using terminology and concepts specific to the topic
You will analyse and discuss the significance of the observation or idea (using theory to justify the significance)
PLEASE NOTE:
All reflections must include a discussion of theory from the unit.
We like it when you do your own writing, even with imperfections. We want to hear of your own experience in your own voice.
You are NOT required to use Gen AI for this task. However, if you do use it for this task, you must disclose your use of Artificial Intelligence, translation apps, or grammar apps.

Follow the APA-7 Referencing Guide to direct quote any text copied directly from a conversation with Generative Artificial Intelligence.
We want to know what you think in your own words, not what A.I. thinks or what a grammar app thinks you should say. Any student suspected of using any of the above without disclosure will be referred for review by the Academic Integrity Office.
ALERT: ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
Students are allowed to engage with Level 2 AI Planning - AI may be used for pre-task activities such as brainstorming, outlining and initial research. You may use AI for planning, idea development, and research. Your final submission should show how you have developed and refined these ideas.
All reflections will include a discussion of theory from the unit. We want to know what you think, in your own words.
Any student suspected of cheating will be referred for review by the Academic Integrity Office.
Additional instructions
Please ensure that your journal:
Is about you and your play as an adult.
Does not include images of children. We are not asking you to observe children. Responds to each topic.
Includes discussions of unit content.
Is laid out in a thoughtful, engaging and organised manner with self-authored images illustrating each entry. Contains a minimum of one (1) in-text citations per entry and a reference list in APA-7 formatting.
Documents your ideas in a variety of ways, for example by using photographs, drawings and notes from on-site observations or discussions.
Includes an image of you in the context of the playing, so we can see that you were involved
DOES NOT INCLUDE PHOTOS OF CHILDREN! Please focus on your play and experiences, we do not want you observing children for this task.
