  • Student ID needs to be indicated on the cover page.
Penalties
  • All work must be submitted on Blackboard by the due date and time along with a completed Assessment Cover Page. Late penalties apply.
  • Reference sources must be cited in the text of the report, and listed appropriately at the end in a reference list using Holmes Institute Adapted Harvard Referencing. Penalties are associated with incorrect citation and referencing.

Assignment Description

Information systems must be implemented in such a manner that they are accepted and work well within the context of an organization and support its fundamental business goals and strategies. You are required to analyse the requirements in each task and provide a good understanding, views and ideas about the suitable IS strategy.

 

TASK 1: Information Systems in Organizations 

Refer to Figure 2.14 – Note the three primary functions of the Information Systems Organization.

Using external research on IS jobs/careers from any careers site (such as https://seek.com.au), create a basic profile for any of the 3 of the IT sub-roles (1 from each category) in:

(i)  Operations

(ii) Development

(iii)  Support

TASK 2: Business Strategy for the Digital World (8 Marks)

Choose an Australian company that interests you and do research to document its Strategic plan.

The Strategic plan should include the following elements:

•    a statement of the organization’s vision & mission, 

•    its key objectives & goals, 

•    a PESTLE analysis, and

•    a SWOT analysis

TASK 3: Disruptive Technologies and Applications

Select an organization to demonstrate how a business can leverage disruptive technologies for competitive advantage. Choose any one of the following disruptive technologies:

  1. Artificial Intelligence
  2. Big Data
  3. Cloud Computing

TASK 4:Strategic IT/IS Leadership and IT Governance

Your team has been hired as consultants to work with a large city to implement a program to place hundreds of high-tech digital cameras in strategic locations to aid in reducing crime and speeding help to victims. The cameras are state-of-the-art with infrared capability for night vision, high resolution, and rapid zoom in and out capability. Your city will be the first in Australia to deploy them. The manufacturer is a relatively newcomer to the digital camera industry. The program has not yet been fully funded nor has it been announced to the residents of the city. The city management and top-level managers are fully behind the program; however, lower-level managers have mixed support. Your team has been asked to Perform a risk assessment for this project.

You are to identify various risks that could occur; assign them a high, medium, or low level of risk, and

Assess the potential impact (high, medium, or low) on the project if that risk should occur.

TASK 5: Cyber crime and Information System Security

Cyber attacks can be carried out against critical infrastructure such as government facilities, emergency services, water and wastewater, transportation, health care services etc.

Research a government you are familiar with and study how such cyber attacks had a negative impact on national security, economic security, health care security and so on.

Student Assessment Citation and Referencing Rules

Adapted Harvard Referencing Rules

Holmes has implemented a revised Harvard approach to referencing.The following rules apply:

  1. Reference sources in assignments are limited to sources that provide full-text access to the source’s content for lecturers and markers.
  2. The reference list must be located on a separate page at the end of the essay and titled: “References”.
  3. The reference list must include the details of all the in-text citations, arranged A-Z alphabetically by author surname with each reference numbered (1 to10,etc.)and each reference MUST include a hyperlink to the full text of the cited reference source. For example

Non-Adherence to Referencing Rules

Where students do not follow the above rules:
