Purpose of the assessment (with ULO Mapping)
  1. Students are required to work in groups of 4 members to choose a country (see Page-4) and a real multinational enterprise in that country of their choice. While working in a specific group, students are required to apply their knowledge learned in the course unit to write an industry/sector report (Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 3, 5,6,7).

 

  1. Finally, students should form their respective groups in the BB as GROUP of: 2 members or 3 members or 4 members maximum.

Submission Guidelines

(40 marks)

All work must be submitted on Blackboard by the respective due date along with a completed Assignment Cover Page:  

 

Final industry research submission

  1. Due date: Week 10, Mid night Friday, May 31, 2024
  2. Final submission research paper on you sector or industry should not exceed 3000 words
  3. The assignment must be in MS Word format, single spacing, 12-pt Arial font and 2 cm margins on all four sides of the page with appropriate section headings and page numbers. 
  4. Reference sources must be cited in the text of the report, and listed appropriately at the end in a reference list using Holmes Institute adapted Harvard referencing style.
  5. Penalties apply for late submissions.
  6. Students in a group are required to participate equitably in the group assignment and that students are responsible for the academic integrity of all components of the assignment.  You need to complete the following table which identifies which student/students are responsible for the various sections of the assignment
  7. Complete, sign and submit the Research Cover Sheet in the BB with the assignment as it is a compulsory component required before any grading is undertaken.
       

 

Research Paper Assignment Specifications

Purpose:

Students are expected to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of International Business Across by conducting research a chosen country and a specific real multinational enterprise operation in that country. This research is to enable students apply international trade theories and concepts learned during Week 1 to Week 10. The in-depth analysis of the chosen country and multinational enterprise, should be supported by data/statistics, figures, tables and relevant literature. A group of up to 4 students, will be provided with a set of countries (see Page-4) from which the group must choose on a ‘first-come, first-served basis’. In this assignment, students are required to do better than recycle the lecture materials. Students are to research the chosen topic in more depth providing evidence of independent research.

General research requirements

You are a group of advisors to the Management Board in your multinational enterprise. As advisors you are first, required to conduct research on your selected country   covering the previous 5-10 years and multinational enterprise. Second, you are required to present a company strategy to your Management Board covering the next 5 years. Third, your Management Board requires that your research paper covers 3000 words.

Research Specifications

This research is divided into two sections. The first section is Country Analysis Section (15%) of this assignment. The Second section is real multinational enterprise analysis operating in the chosen country (25%).

Country Analysis Details

This assignment’s purpose is to perform a country analysis and assessment of a new emerging market where rapid GDP growth has created attractive investment opportunities.

Your report must address the following key areas:

  • General overview of the country or region
  • Political, Economic, Socio-cultural and Technological influences/benefits/ advantages
  • National resource and factor endowments that create competitive advantage
  • Foreign currency and exchange influences
  • The nation’s existing trade policies, systems, barriers and incentives
  •  Foreign Direct Investment

 

Section 2: Multinational Enterprise analysis

Multinational Enterprise Analysis Details

The purpose of this section is to perform a written analysis of a real multinational enterprise that has expanded its operation across borders into foreign/international markets. The multinational enterprise of your choice much must have its headquarters or subsidiary in that country.

 

Your report must address the following key areas:

  • Overview of the company and current operating position
  • Multinational enterprise competitive strategy
  • Organisational structure and knowledge management
  • Foreign market entry strategy used to enter regions/countries
  • Operational control, production and distribution/supply chain management
  • Management of Human Resources across borders
  • Corporate Social Responsivity
  • Identify key issues, innovation or opportunities for management
  • Recommendations to management for improvement

 

Note:

  • This research should provide useful information for your multinational enterprise Management Board. It should use a variety of resources, including the textbook, newspapers, industry reports, the ABS website, and other sources.

 

  • You will need to cite material from academic texts or articles or official sources, e.g. government reports, and the final report MUST BE WRITTEN IN YOUR OWN WORDS.

 

General Instructions

Your report should be organised with a clear research structure that includes but not limited to the following with headings that indicate sections and subsections:

  • Executive Summary
  • Table of content
  • Knowledge of concepts and course material
  • Investigative and research skills shown
  • Overall impression of excellence
  • You will need to cite material from academic texts or articles or official sources, e.g. government reports, and the final report
  • All reports must contain in-text citation and an accurate and complete set of references at the end of the paper.
  • Furthermore, your research should be properly referenced using the Holmes institute adapted Harvard style and at least 5 references.

  4. The countries selected will be posted in form of weekly basis announcement
  5. Following (i) and (iv), before choosing a country check to identify that the country is not identified before seeking approval.

 

STUDENT ASSESSMENT SUBMISSION AND LATE PENALTIES

To be eligible to pass this unit, you must complete all forms of assessment and demonstrate achievement of the learning outcomes. All assignments must be submitted electronically ONLY using a word processor, uploaded to Blackboard via the Final Check and Submission of SafeAssign. 

 

Submission deadlines are strictly enforced and a late submission incurs penalties of 5 (five) % of the assessment value per calendar day unless an extension and/or special consideration has been granted by the lecturer prior to the assessment deadline. Unless an extension and/or special consideration has been granted, no assessments are accepted after 14 calendar days of the due date, or the end of the trimester for assessments due later in a trimester. Students need to allow up to 24 hours for the Final Check of their assignment submission to SafeAssign to be available.

 

Group Assessment Plan

An effective way for students to learn international business is through participation in a Group Research Project. This project is designed to accomplish effective learning. During the course of the semester, each of the elements of your Group Assessment, may be reviewed by your Lecturer.

File Exchange tool:

All the academic papers that are used in the assignment need to be posted on BB by using File Exchange tool. Students need to highlight the discussion in the academic paper which is relevant issues related to the assignment. Academic papers can be found in ProQuest (ProQuest instruction can be found in page 6. Assignment will be marked ZERO if does not include references list.

 

Group Blog:

All the discussion about group assignment needs to be recorded by using Group Blog tool. The discussion must relevant to the content of the assignment and reflects the outcome of the group meeting.

Add a file to the file exchange

  1. Group Tools > File Exchange > Add File
  2. Add a name for the file you want to upload. Browse for the file and submit.
  3. Delete a file from the file exchange
  4. You can delete any file, even if you didn't upload it. On the File Exchange page, select Delete in the file's menu.

All the group members can discuss about the assignment by using Group Blog. Once you are allocated in a group, you can see this function.
