Having a clear and well-articulated personal philosophy statement of teaching and learning becomes the foundation for all of your teaching practices. In your personal philosophy statement, you will share your image of the child and teacher, describe your view of the purpose of teaching and include the theories that guide you as a teacher.

Your statement will articulate related broad practices for teaching and learning that reflect your purpose and theories that resonate with you. Your philosophy statement will develop throughout your career as you develop new understandings.

 

The unit learning outcomes assessed are:

LO 3: Infer and conceptually map philosophical, theoretical and contemporary educational perspectives identifying self-situated practice;

You will communicate your personal philosophy regarding teaching and learning. This statement will include your image of the child, image of the teacher, your view as to the purpose of teaching and learning, share the educational theories or ideas that guide you as a teacher, and describe the general style of teaching practices that are the extension of your purpose and theoretical beliefs.

This is your philosophy and it can be presented in a PowerPoint presentation which will commence your Teaching Portfolio perfectly.

To get started on your assessment task, please follow the below instructions.

  1. Participate in the reflective exercises that are part of the session material.
  2. Write your Personal Philosophy on Teaching and Learning including:
    1. Your teaching mission statement
  3. Your image of the teacher, your beliefs about the purpose of early childhood education and your role in reaching this purpose.
    1. Your image of the child
  4. Your beliefs about the importance of family and community
  5. Discuss the theories and ideas from which your actions as a teacher develop. Be specific and use citations if needed.
  6. While using an appropriate and professional writing style, write your philosophy in a manner that reflects your own voice and personality. First person narrative is appropriate and encouraged.
  7. Share examples of the kind of broad teaching practices that emerge from your beliefs.
    1. End with an inspiring conclusion that sums up your purpose.

 

 

  1. Consider the presentation of your philosophy statement. Use adequate space. Select any fonts and images carefully to portray a professional image. A picture will express your philosophy. Ensure any images of children show them as capable and competent, and are aged 5 and under.
