You are required to complete three interrelated assessments for this subject with each being assessed independently on their own merits.Assessment1(the first of three in this subject)requires you to research optimization techniques in the context of solving a business problem. Specifically, you must identify a business problem that can be analyzed using an appropriate dataset. Then, you must identify a dataset to use for solving that business problem and provide a source for the data.
Please refer to the Instructions for details on how to complete this task.To be successful in this assessment, you are required to read the resources provided in Modules 1 and 2.
Computers are increasingly becoming more powerful and capable of processing large amounts of business data. Consequently, optimization techniques have been developed that analyze large datasets to solve business problems and significantly improve decision-making. Such developments have provided a range of careers for those employees who can harness the available range of tools. Interpreting business needs, operating and interpreting the output of modern optimization tools, and communicating the results to stakeholders in a clear and timely manner are crucial skills in modern workplaces. Business students will benefit from being able to interpret and analyse business problems and be guided in applying optimization to business cases.
Produce a research paper of1,000 words(+/-10%) that identifies a business problem which can be solved using data analysis. Formally, assessment 1 involves three key tasks:
For the sake of brevity, the term “business problem” is used in this brief to refer to a business problem, opportunity, or question that can be answered. Importantly, you must select a “problem, opportunity, or question ”that can be solved using data analysis. Notably, selecting appropriate analytical techniques for solving the specific business problem you have identified is a key challenge to consider.
Select an appropriated at a set
You are at liberty to provide you row n dataset, provided it can be made available to facilitators. Possible data sources include the following:
Data.gov, all US government public datasets https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=d06c97fe8e90efe5JmltdHM9MTY2NDIzNjgwMCZpZ3VpZD0zY2ViNGYxNC1lYmEwLTYyODItMzI5NC01ZTMwZWEwODYzZTcmaW5zaW

If you select a public dataset, a valid link to the dataset must be provided. If selecting a private dataset, a separate file must be uploaded when submitting your research report (task3).The best approach is to download and compress the dataset as a zip file and submit
this file together with the research report, using the following naming convention: BANASD603_Last name First name_Assessment1Dataset.zip. Full instructions for how to do so will be provided by your Learning Facilitator. Any alternative approach to submitting your dataset file (such as providing a link to a shared drive, must be negotiated with your Learning Facilitator).
There search report should be structured using the following headings(each section is not given equal weighting):
Notes:
For practical purposes, the three aforementioned assessment tasks may be addressed randomly. You may start by selecting an appropriate dataset and then identifying a business problem that dataset could solve. While assessment 1 is focused on the business problem, the report should be rich enough to demonstrate critical judgement of analysis and optimisation techniques.Specifically, this assessment tests your ability to plan for an in-depth analysis of a business problem, identifying relevant optimization techniques and locating resources for performing the analysis. Although you have liberty to identify a business problem, deeper, more significant business problem will be given more weight.
It is essential that you use appropriate APA style for citing and referencing research. Please see more information on referencing in the Academic Skills webpage.

If you select private datasets, your submission will consist of the following two documents:
Please note during the submission process: If you would like to include a second file in your submission , once your first item has been uploaded, click ‘Browse Your Computer’ to attach the extra documents. Then, click Final Submit button.
The Learning Facilitator will provide feedback via the Grade Centre in the LMS portal. Feedback can be viewed in My Grades.
