Assessment 3 – Group Report and Presentation (30%)

Reports are due on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 11:59 pm (Week 11).

Presentations are scheduled during Week 11 classes.

Overview of this Assignment

  • In groups of 3-4, students are required to evaluate the appropriateness and effectiveness of property planning and decision-making undertaken in a contemporary guest services case study assigned by the Lecturer. Students are to prepare a 1,500-word (plus/minus 10%) report worth 20% of the total grade. Based on the report, students will present a 10 to 15-minute presentation to the class during the scheduled tutorial. Presentation is worth 10% of the total grade.

Purpose of this Assignment

This assessment aims to evaluate the appropriateness and effectiveness of facilities management, HR management, and decision-making in a contemporary guest services case study by applying the SERVQUAL model. It also aims to make recommendations to improve guest services operation management.

ULO 2. Analyse the effectiveness of hospitality property management systems and explain how legislations are applied within the hospitality industry.

 

ULO 3. Apply staff recruitment processes and make recommendations in relation to employee rights and employer responsibilities.

 

ULO4. Evaluate and recommend improvements to a guest services facilities management plan.

Task Description:

To complete this assessment, students are required to:

Part 1 (Group Report)-20%:

  1. Analyse the appropriateness and effectiveness of facilities management, HR management and decision-making undertaken in a contemporary guest services case study in terms of the SERVQUAL dimensions:
    • Assurance
    • Empathy
    • Reliability
    • Responsiveness
    • Tangibles
  2. Make recommendations to improve guest services operation management based on your analysis. Students must apply the theories (e.g. Total Quality Management, Lean Operation, Six Sigma) they have acquired in class to justify their operation strategies.

Part 2 (Group Presentation)-10%:

  1. Based on the group report, students will present a 10 to 15-minute presentation to the class during the scheduled tutorial (Week 11). Students are required to submit the presentation materials (PDF or ppt files) via Moodle before the group presentation.

  • Length: 1,500 words (including headings, reference list) (± 10%)
    • A 10% penalty will be applied for assignments exceeding or below the recommended word limit.

  • You can upload a MS Word or PDF file.
    • Presentation Format: 12-point Arial or Times New Roman, 1.5 line spacing, with page numbers inserted bottom right; includes headings/sub-headings.
    • Insert all diagrams, tables, pictures, and other graphics in the body of the assignment and make sure they are properly formatted, titled and layout is neat on the page (no large gaps).

Citation and Referencing (APA 7)

The assignment should show evidence of research, with references from relevant academic journals. You should have at least SIX (6) different peer-reviewed academic articles and use them as the foundation for each part of your report. Do not use Wikipedia as a reference source. Unless it is a generic theory/model, cited publications must be within the past 15 years.

All citations and references must adhere to APA 7 referencing style.
