Task Description:

The goal of this assessment is to test your ability to use ANSYS Workbench®.
You will develop a portfolio of 4 workshops. Marks for each workshop are as indicated. Refer to CRA Sheets on Moodle.

Workshop 1: Meshing – 8 Marks

Present a detailed report on the meshing workshops you have practiced in this unit. This should include: (i) Global and local mesh controls, (ii) All the meshing methods

Workshop 2: Interference Fit – 8 Marks

Conduct a detailed analysis of the interference fit workshop and answer the following questions:

1. Why is it necessary to use nonlinear material models to simulate this problem?
2. What does the option, “Add Off Set, Ramped Effects,” help achieve when modelling an interference fit?

Workshop 3: Multi-Step Analysis – 8 Marks

Carry out the multi-step analysis on the pipe clamp assembly. Implement a multilinear plasticity model for the pipe and examine the plastic strain at the pipe-clamp interface.

Workshop 4: Phase Change Heat Transfer – 6 Marks

Reproduce the workshop on phase change modelling and simulation.

Your portfolio template will use the following headings for each of the workshops:

1. Problem description
2. Assumptions about geometry, materials and boundary conditions
3. Boundary conditions and loadings, Solver settings
4. Results & Analysis – Postprocess your results
5. Discussion on postprocessing
6. Conclusions
