Descriptions:
The purpose of this assessment is to provide students with an understanding of key accounting standards related with Impairment and taxation.
Part A:
AASB 136 is an accounting standard that outlines the rules for recognizing and measuring the impairment of assets. The standard applies to all types of assets, including tangible and intangible assets, as well as investments in subsidiaries, joint ventures, and associates. The key features of AASB 136 are impairment testing, measurement of impairment and reversal of impairment. Companies are required to disclose information about the impairment of assets, including the assumptions and estimates used in determining the recoverable amount, and the impact of impairment on the company's financial statements. Overall, AASB 136 ensures that companies report their assets at their true value, by recognizing and measuring the impairment of assets accurately.
Analyse the annual report of a selected ASX listed company from 2019 to 2023. How they are applying AASB 136 and meeting the compliance of accounting standard requirements. (1000 Words).
The allocation of company will be provided once the self-select grouping is done.
Part B:
“There is an impact of Deferred Taxes on Earnings Management” - conduct a small research study based on at least 10 recent (Year 2018 – 2024) peer-reviewed authentic articles to explore how deferred tax expenses are interrelated with earnings management."
Investigate the relationship between deferred tax expenses and earnings management. Identify trends, methodologies, and conclusions from recent studies.
Select at least 8 recent (published within the last 10 years) peer-reviewed articles.
Annotate the findings of each article, focusing on the impact of deferred taxes on earnings management. Highlight any common methodologies and theoretical frameworks used. Compare and contrast the findings of the selected articles.
Identify any patterns or discrepancies in the relationship between deferred tax expenses and earnings management. Discuss potential reasons for these patterns or discrepancies.
Write convincing arguments on the overall findings of your research. Provide insights into how deferred tax expenses influence earnings management. Suggest areas for further research based on gaps or limitations identified in the reviewed articles.
