HI6008 ASSIGNMENT 2 – LITERATURE REVIEW

Purpose:

Assignment 2 Specifications

This unit aims to give you an opportunity to combine many facets of your acquired MBA skills into the production of a high-quality research project, based on a comprehensive review of relevant current academic literature which may include secondary data.

Assignment 2 – the Literature Review – is designed to ensure that each team member masters the skills of searching, locating, reading, summarising, and using relevant academic literature as secondary data to support a compelling discussion of factors central to the identified and specified research problem and crafting an ‘argument’ that brings the reader closer to a prospective answer to the specified research question(s). You are advised to make use of at least 3 of the articles listed on the HI6008 Blackboard site within menu item ‘Additional Resources’.

Your tutor will FACILITATE the process, week by week, in the tutorials, BUT remember that this is a ‘learn-by- doing’ unit, in which you will spend a significant amount of tutorial time discussing and practising research skills. The learning will be progressive, so for best results you will need to be listening to the weekly recorded lectures as well as participating in the interactive tutorials and using the discussion board to interact with other students in your cohort. HI6008 Business research Assessment 2

[Note that you are not expected to solve the research problem at this stage of your project, just to demonstrate sufficient context which will then allow you to plan the methodology phase of your research, which is assignment 3]

Assignment Structure should be the following:

  1. Page 1: Cover Page
  2. Page 2: Title Box
  3. Page 3 and 4: An opening statement of the Research Problem (RP) and Research Question (RQ) as per your Topic Approval. Then demonstrate that you have identified an appropriate body of existing knowledge, i.e. at least 3 of the articles listed within ‘Additional Resources’ that are relevant to the topic you developed in assignment 1, plus additional relevant journal articles that you source via the ProQuest academic search engine and/or Research Gate. This provides evidence that you are able to find literature relevant to a deeper understanding of your Research Question (RQ) as well as a model or theory (see Marking Rubric row 1).
  4. Page 5 and 6: Evidence of understanding and academic argument, with logical structure and flow, drawing the reader’s attention to prior research in this area, citing between 12 and 15 high quality academic sources that are relevant and current. (see Marking Rubric row 2)
  5. Page 7 and 8: Discussion of major theories, models or streams of influence relevant to the RQ. that converge and bring you closer to an answer to your research question (see Marking Rubric row 3)
  6. Ensure all citations are correctly referenced in-text with correct page and paragraph numbers. Add a comprehensive List of References, in Holmes adapted Harvard referencing style. [Students please be warned that errors in referencing attract suspicion of plagiarism/academic misconduct and may evoke a more-detailed investigation. Fake referencing and/or fabrication of data or information is academic fraud and will result in a report of Academic Misconduct. It is essential that academic integrity is upheld. Don’t take a chance!]
