Write an academic report examining the programme management of the Wembley Regeneration programme (https://www.brent.gov.uk/your-community/regeneration/what-is-happening-in-wembley/) – the focus of your research, analysis and discussion should be how you think the programme was managed and structured. Your academic report should be logically structured, making use of headings/sub-headings to help the reader follow your arguments.

The academic report should not be longer than 2500 words (excluding the contents page, executive summary/abstract, reference list, tables and diagrams). Please note that you can make use of an appendix; this will not however be marked and should only be used to provide support for the main body of the report by providing the material that the reader does not have access to. All other materials should be either included in the main body of the report or cited within the report.

Coursework 2 builds upon your research in coursework 1, coursework 2 uses a number of programme tools to aid your critical analysis of the programme, such as programme blueprint, benefit mapping & lessons learnt report for the programme.

Welcome to 7PJMN003W Programme and Strategic Management, this module aims to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to successfully manage programmes of projects within organizations.

During the course of the module, the student will also develop an understanding of how the project and programme management can be used as a strategic tool.

Due to the nature of the module, you will also need to demonstrate your higher academic skills, including critical thinking and analysis. This will also require you to do reading beyond the core text for the module.

MODULE 7PJMN003W Programme & Strategic Management AIMS, LEARNING OUTCOMES AND INDICATIVE CONTENT

Module Aims

This module aims to provide students with an understanding of programme management and its links the organisation’s strategy. By the end of the module, students should be aware and be able to critically evaluate the following:

  • understand and analyse the link between strategy and programme management;
  • develop a programme management strategy;
  • understand, implement, analyse and critically evaluate project management maturity models (PMMM);
  • develop programme management structures and processes;
  • critique programme management methods currently available (i.e. APM, MSP, PMI).

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module you should be able to:

  • critically evaluate the changing emphasis in project & programme management; 
    1. align projects and programmes to the firm’s strategy;
    2. critically analyse project and programme issues, such as risk management, quality management, change management and resource allocation;
    3. critically analyse leadership and team management within project & programmes;
    4. critically evaluate commercial and behavioural issues in the management of projects

ASSESSMENT 7PJMN003W Programme & Strategic Management

The module is assessed by

  • Coursework 1 – 50%
  • Coursework 2 – 50%

The pass mark for the module is 50%. To pass overall, the overall total calculated from adding weighted marks in each assessment component must be 35% (If your mark for the module is between 0 – 49 you will be required to complete one or more referral assessments and your mark for these will be capped at 50%).

Unless explicitly indicated otherwise all coursework must be submitted electronically via Blackboard. In addition to the detail given below, further information may be posted onto the Blackboard site for the module.

Anonymous marking

Do NOT include your name or student number within the file name or anywhere within your submission. The submission will be subject to anonymous marking. Having logged into either Turnitin the system will record your details anonymously and tutors will only see your name after the entire submission has been assessed and provisional marks have been released to all students at the same time.

Assessment rationale, methods and weightings

The assessment has been developed to examine the learning outcomes of the module, to provide students with a chance to develop a rigorous and carefully developed piece of work and to gain a firsthand understanding of the issues involved in organising, planning and controlling programmes. The formative assessment/learning opportunity will be provided within seminars via case study-based analysis which has been selected to enable academic skills development for the summative assessment. The assessment for this module has been designed in the full expectation that formative assessments are completed by students; failure to do so is likely to impact the student’s ability to pass the module.

The individual coursework 1 (50%) allows students to expand on issues of programme & strategic project management by resorting to current literature on strategic project & programme management (LO 1, 3, 5)

The individual coursework 2 (50%) allows students to explore tools, such as programme blueprint, benefit mapping and lessons learnt reporting to encourage critical analysis of programmes (LO 2, 3, 4)

Referencing requirements for assignments

Statements, assertions and ideas made in coursework should be supported by citing relevant sources. Sources cited in the text should be listed at the end of the assignment in a reference list. Any material that you read but do not cite in the report should go into a separate bibliography.
