Communication in health and social care 

Why effective Communication skills are important in health and social care setting. Effective communication skills play vital role in health and social care as they help to establish good relationship with the healthcare users, management and colleagues. This would allow people working in healthcare to gain access of the vital information from the healthcare users.

Unit 1 Communication in health and social care is an essential module in HND Health and social care course for level 3,4,5,6 and 7. This unit

Communication in health and social care unit emphasizes on the importance of communication in health and social care setting. This answers how effective communication in health and social care allow care workers working in health and social care to develop a good rapport with users. Factors influencing communication process in health and social care are also determined to control them. Further learning objective deals with use of ICT to improve upon communication in health and social care.

First learning objective for the unit discusses ways in which effective communication in health and social care can be developed. This deals with below sub tasks:

First learning objective in the unit discusses several important aspects related to communication in health and social care. Further it deals with role of verbal communication in health and social care as along with verbal communication, non-verbal communication is also adopted to deal with users and enhance their experience. Barriers of communication should be explored and dealt with utmost care so that users and care workers can communicate without hindrance to develop a win-win situation for both. Communication cycle should be well explained to the care workers working in healthcare field as this would lead to good communication skills in them. Users should also be interviewed to know barriers to effective communication so that they can gain benefits. Moreover, charters, code of practice and legislation are also important while communicating with the users of health and social care. Organizational system and policies are vital in promoting good practice in health and social care setting. Management has key role in finding out ways to improve upon communication process in health and social care setting.

Third learning objective for the unit deals with the usage of information and communication technology to improve upon communication process in health and social care. It covers below sub tasks

Third learning objective for the unit deals with the role of ICT to promote effective communication in health and social care setting. There are several standard ICT software package for supporting communication in health and social care. Benefits for ICT software package for care workers, care organizations and social are users should be evaluated and efforts should be to enhance these benefits. Finally, legal considerations associated with the usage of ICT in health and social care should be evaluated so that care organizations can use them accordingly.
