Case study 1 Your organisation has had to restructure to remain viable. This has meant over 70 employees have be retrenched and there are now only 220 left, all of the employees are angry and scared about their future with the organisation. Whilst the remaining employees have been assured that their positions are safe, they have little trust left in the organisations management and there is a great deal of behind the scenes talking and negativity which is further impacting on production and is showing in interactions with customers. You have been asked to lead this change by providing strategic leadership to calm the waters and get the organisation back on track. In order to do this, you will need to discuss each of the following questions in an assignment and answer each of them in detail.

Question 1 Outline the transformational and transactional leadership practices that you will apply during this process

Question 2 What methods would be best utilised to ensure your communications with employees were empathetic to their situation and begin to build relationships with them?

Question 3 How can you demonstrate your respect for the diversity of the employees?

Question 4 How will you be able to manage your emotions and impulses when team members are very negative towards management (this includes you)?

Question 5 How will you manage your work based relationships?

Question 6 How will you ensure your judgement is on track and that you use your intelligence and common sense to make decisions and guide people through the change?

Question 7 In order to achieve results from the strategic change, who could you consult as an expert?

Question 8 What legislation and regulations could apply to this transformation in the organisation. Choose at least three (3) and discuss each one in relation to the change.

Question 9 Discuss the methods you could use to cultivate, encourage and improve collaborative communication with employees?

Question 10 What methods would you use to convey the organisations new direction? Write a short statement on what and how you might convey this message

Instructions for Students • Review your own performance as a leader in the workplace and record the reflection on the twelve (12) reflection questions. This will enable you to identify your strengths and weaknesses as a leader and give you the opportunity to improve your leadership skills

• This is an individual assessment.

• The purpose of this assessment task is to assess your knowledge essential to leading personal and strategic transformation in a range of contexts and industry settings.

• To make full and satisfactory responses, you should consult a range of learning resources, other information such as handouts and textbooks, learners’ resources and slides.

• You may attach a separate sheet if required.

• You must include the following particulars in the footer section of each page of any additional attached sheets: o Student ID or Student Name o Unit ID or Unit Code o Course ID or Course Code o Trainer and assessor name o Page numbers

• You must staple the loose sheets together along with the cover page.

• You must attach the loose sheets chronologically as per the page numbers.

• Correction fluid and tape are not permitted. Please do any corrections by striking through the incorrect words with one or two lines and rewriting the correct words.

Question 10 Reflection on personal effectiveness – do you create an environment that builds on and strengthens the workplace culture? Do you utilise the diversity of the culture in the workplace?

Question 11 Identify the leadership styles and analyse your leadership style. Outline how you came to your conclusion and discuss what this means for you as a leader.

Question 12 Outline the approach you would use to best respond to the impact of change in the organisation based on the leadership style
